Beam your full contact information to anyone in a second with this free service

October 27, 2007, by itsnearme

Txtms is a free service for people to exchange their contact information. Txtms makes it fast and easy to exchange contact information with people in real-time. All that is needed is to create a profile and a mobile phone.

It took a while for texting (also know as SMS ‘short messaging service’) to pick up in the USA. As recently as 3-4 years ago, not many people were texting. Today, texting is used by many people in the USA and there is a boom in text-based services – Txtms is an example of this type of service. Txtms concept is a very good one – create a profile online and then share it with people through their mobile phone. This allows for quick contact exchange. Also, if you ever loose or change you phone, you have your contact info, at least those you met through Txtms, stored online.

I’ve registered to Txtms. The site is very easy to navigate and has a clear layout. I have told some people to text my profile name (6 letter username) to x@txtms.com and they got my contact information within minutes. When I logged back to txtms.com I saw the telephone numbers of the people who I told to fetch my contact info. This seems to be a very useful, although limited, site. It would be nice if it integrated into other social community sites, such as LinkedIn or Facebook, or with my email accounts.

How to use this service?

Create a profile on txtms.com. Enter the information you want to share with people as your contact info, there are not many fields.

Next time you meet someone you want to give them your contact info - simply tell them to text from their mobile phone x@txtms.com (instead of a number) and enter your profile name (username) in the body of the text, within minutes they will receive a text back with your profile information. The same can be done from any email account, from any computer of email-capable mobile phone.
